It’s the week of Thanksgiving! Try your hand this week at some local recipes, local ingredients, local gifts, and more! Island Thanksgivings are a really treat!

Welcome to the market: Virgin Islands Creations, carrying locally made soaps with ingredients they grow! I’ve tried them and they are very moisturizing yet cleansing for the skin! A nice break from harsh detergents used in commercial soaps. Especially after all this hand sanitizer we’ve all been using.

New one the market: locally crafted Beeswax Wrap clothes, an eco-friendly substitute for foil paper and seran wrap over your holiday dishes on the kitchen counter. This is really cool that a local beekeeper is making their own beeswax cloth wraps available to the VI community!

SORREL!!! This is your chance to bring a sorrel drink or dish to Thanksgiving as a true island touch! If you haven’t used it before, you can treat it like cranberry. Very tart and sour raw, but amazing when cooked in sugar. Try make a sorrel sauce fo the Turkey this year! And the color!!! Oh my. Here’s some sorrel recipes to try.

Happy Farmers Market Saturday!

We have some great buys on the market available this week. We have some new growers joining the market too. And we also have a big market change!

Farmers Market update:
This Wednesday’s pick up location is going to be in Frenchtown!

In efforts to grow the market, get more producers on the market, and to help more customers find the market, we are partnering with the Frenchtown Fishermen to use a portion of their pavilion close to the sea for the market pick up location.

This will help support more customers being able to get to the pick location by foot as well as by car. And, this will help support the farming community as we build stronger food networks of land producers and sea providers.

Where in Frenchtown?
So pick up will be same format, drive through style. You’ll drive through the little parking lot turn around by Bella Blue restaurant, Hook Line n Sinker will be in front of you, turning left, the market tables will be there under a covered area. Market coordinators will be there to hand you your order or place them in your car for you and help keep you moving as needed.

We hope you are up for trying out this new location with us and that it will expand your shopping options on the market! Thanks so much for being a customer of these local producers!

Delivery option Update:
We’ll be ready to start offering delivery options by mid-November! Stay tuned for this as we’ll be making it more convenient to shop local, shop healthy, and to shop fresh!

You inspire us to grow more every week!

Yours Truly,
Your Market Coordinators

Online Farmers Market is open!

STT Locally Grown Online Farmers Market is open!

Excited to add to the market this week: local chives, banana slips from St Croix, Arugula, etc! Keep in mind some farmers are adding more inventory after some of their farm stands close this morning so check back again later this afternoon and even tomorrow.

Market Updates:
One of the big ones is that we are entering the winter months and during this time (even though you’re asking what winter), chickens naturally slow down laying to conserve energy. So we’ve begun to see some of our egg providers reduce number of eggs available. In case you were wondering, that’s what’s going on in our seasonal changes in our food cycles. On a tastier note, beginning around January everyone picks back up in egg production and we’ve been in contact with 2 major chicken farmers whose 100s of chicks will be coming of egg laying age by then so boy are we gonna have strong local egg production in St Thomas soon! The major part of the inspiration has been you! Your consumer trends of wanting more local eggs has motivated many producers on the market to increase their operations. So thank you for shopping on the market! You play the most important role in growing a strong healthy local resilient agriculture every time you eat local! Shelli want to give all of you a medal of Sustainable Agriculture drivers 2020! We’re not sure how as yet but we’re sure she’ll find a way! :)

Thanks again for shopping local and shopping seasonal!

Customer Survey before re-start!

Dear STT Locally Grown customer,

Thank you so much for joining us for our first season. We were happy that us growers and producers were able to connect with you through this new platform.

We are getting ready to re-open again and are working to improve your overall market experience.

This season we are looking to move to a more central location. I know many really enjoyed the pick up spot but many also did not. We are aiming to grow the market and make it more accessible to the whole island this season. We’ll keep you posted on that new location once all the logistics are confirmed. But so far I can tell you what we are looking for in a new pick up spot:
- more central (mid-island) for customers
- not a crowded location to maintain social distancing
- a clear easy path for a drive-thru style pick up for you where you can easily drive in and out without having to turn around or get stuck in traffic or a parking lot
- a safe place where we can store our coolers so the market coordinators don’t have to transport all the market gear every week
- and yes Shade!

Where ever we pick, I ask you be gentle on us for the move as we aim to reach more people this season.

Please take a moment to fill out our customer survey. Your feedback is important to us as we aim to provide you with another great market season!
